The Munster Senior Football Championship could return to aseeded draw next year.
At last night’s Cork County Board meeting at Páirc Uí Chaoimh, Munster Council delegate Jerry O’Sullivan revealed that the possibility of a reinstatement of the old system, which keeps Cork and Kerry apart, was raised at a meeting recently and will be discussed again before next year’s draw.
The seeded draw was abolished in 1991 before returning for two years in 2007. In addition, O’Sullivan said that counties are being asked to discuss the structure and format of the Waterford Crystal and McGrath cups as the involvement of third-level colleges is causing difficulties.
Central Council delegate Des Cullinane reported that the semi-finals of next year’s Allianz Football League will give home advantage to the top two sides, with first at home to fourth and second at home to third.
Cullinane also said that GAA President Liam O’Neill had suggested that minute’s silences be replaced by moment’s silences and also requested that those presenting trophies should give shorter speeches and that he would lead by example.
Speeches by minor captains after provincial and All-Ireland finals have been abolished. Also, the Ard Chomairle meeting also mandated that managers cannot discard their ‘bainisteoir’ bibs for ‘maor foirne’ ones to come onto the field and give instructions to players.
The identity of the Cork County SHC relegation finalists should be known by Wednesday, July 4 afterdetails of the third-round fixtures were revealed.
Bride Rovers and Blackrock will clash at Páirc Uí Chaoimh on Sunday, July 1, with the winners of that game progressing to the last 16, while the losers will wait three days to find out the identity of their relegation play-off opponents.
Bishopstown and Glen Rovers play in the second round next Wednesday, the losers playing Cloyne in round three seven days later at Páirc Uí Chaoimh. Due to only one of the football second round ties having been completed thus far, the third round will not be completed until July 14.
